It's funnier in economics.
Studying economics drives me crazy (and not in a good way). I'm so sick and tired of seeing graphs here and there, calculating for derivatives, and seeing words like marginal cost, marginal revenue, Pareto efficiency. I'd really rather study political science and talk about globalization, urban development problems, or taxation in a more passionate and less impersonal manner. In fact, the only reason why I'm taking up my course is because I'm implicitly promised a better future and probably better looking bank account. Sometimes though, you can't help but douse yourself in economics humor and find yourself laughing. And I quote from "Economics of the Public Sector" by Joseph Stiglitz:
In many elections, voter participation is low. In fact, economists are puzzled why individuals bother to vote at all, since the expected private benefit -- given the low probability that they affect the outcome -- is typically less than the private cost.
Ha. I'm being such a dork. But in other (related) news, I've been trying my best (in spite of my terrible exam schedule) to keep up with the NBN controversy. I recall staying up until 4 in the morning the other day watching the replay of the senate inquiry -- the one where Ping Lacson, in all his annoying idiocy, asked Atty. Bautista why he got barred from teaching law in Ateneo and UP and blatantly and baselessly gave sexual harassment as reason. Seriously, sometimes I have to wonder Filipinos are stupid enough to vote for these assholes. Really, why the fuck are people foolish enough to excuse that imbecile, Jun Lozada, from his significant role in continuing Philippine corruption much less believe in him?
Maybe I'll write a much more formal entry in the near future. But for now, I think my vague, angry entry for them suits their level. Come on, we're all probably smarter than the likes of Biazon and J-J-J-Jamby anyway.

But even knowing this, isn't it sad that we find them more worthy of our attention than studying about marginal revenue?

I'm in the reverse situation right now. I put myself down for Political Science in UPD and now I've un-repressed my love for Economics (despite everyone's warnings about Math). >
